Toronto, August 25 (Post Bureau): In response to US President Donald Trump’s threat to rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America”, Toronto mayoral candidate Brad Bradford has suggested renaming New York. Bradford said in a video released on social media that if Trump renames Lake Ontario, he will support renaming New York as the “Province of New York”. He said that from 1664 to 1776, New York was actually called the “Province of New York”. It was a British colony at that time and was named in honor of the Duke of York. Bradford jokingly said that if he wins the upcoming municipal elections If elected mayor in the US, he is also ready to send a plaque to New York. However, Bradford said that the issue is not just about changing the name. According to him, the people of Toronto can respond to the new tariffs being imposed by the US by buying Canadian products. He said that Toronto cannot change the decisions made by the US, but it can certainly support its people and the local economy.
The second mayor Candidate Chris Alexander criticized Bradford, saying the ongoing trade war with the United States is a serious matter and that the focus should be on the impact on jobs, investment and families instead of “name politics.”
