Edmonton, August 11 (Post Bureau): Three people, including two correctional officers and a female inmate, were killed in a horrific collision between a Canadian Correctional Service (CSC) vehicle being used for prison transfers and a box truck in Alberta. The accident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 41 and Highway 13 near Qazar in rural Alberta. Two correctional officers and a female inmate were riding in the CSC minivan. The vehicle collided head-on with a Hino box truck. All three people in the vehicle died at the scene in the accident. The deceased have been identified as 25-year-old Ramandeep Kaur Mann, 57-year-old Nicole Sarban and 24-year-old inmate Kiara Muswa. The driver of the box truck was the only passenger and was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Ramandeep Kaur Mann’s native village is said to be Gudhe village in Ludhiana district. She came to Canada as an international student a few years ago. After completing her studies in Manitoba, she moved to Alberta and settled in Edmonton about a year ago. Ramandeep, who has a special interest in sports, has been playing for about six years. He had started working as a correctional officer with the Canadian Correctional Service months ago. CSC Commissioner Talal Dakalbab expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of the two correctional officers, saying that they performed their duty with dedication and commitment to public safety. He expressed his condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased. Canadian Correctional Service will also conduct an internal investigation into the accident, which resulted in the death of an inmate in custody. Officials have not yet released the full details of the investigation or the fate of the prison vehicle PM Mark Carney also expressed his condolences to the families and colleagues of the deceased correctional officers.
