Ontario, July 15 (News Desk): Nearly 20,000 pigs died in a massive fire that broke out early Tuesday at a large pig farm west of the city of Simcoe, Ontario. Norfolk County firefighters struggled for hours to bring the blaze under control. Norfolk County Deputy Fire Chief James Robertson said that at about 6:30 a.m., employees at the farm notified emergency services after seeing smoke. He said it is one of the largest pig farms in the state and the area of ​​the building affected by the fire was approximately four acres. According to officials, the fire destroyed the entire building and killed about 20,000 people. However, there were no reports of injuries to firefighters or any member of the farm staff. 14 fire trucks and more than 50 firefighters were deployed to the scene to douse the fire. Officials said the operation lasted for a long time and the fire was almost under control by morning. The deputy fire chief said the farm is insured. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but initial reports indicate that the incident is not being treated as suspicious. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has also been notified. The incident closed Highway 3 to traffic between Charlotteville East Quarter Line and Windham East Quarter Line Road.
