Brampton, October 2, 2025
On the auspicious occasion of 2nd October, the Jai Hind Canadian Society INC along with the Jai Hind Seniors Club, Brampton, celebrated the 156th Birth Anniversary of India’s Father of the Nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, fondly known as Bapu, at Jim Irons Park, 10 Terrick Road, Brampton. The program began with the members present paid floral tributes to Gandhiji’s portrait, remembering him with respect and reverence, followed by inspiring speeches. The President of Jai Hind Canadian Society, Shri Chandreshbhai Patel, and senior community leader & Auditor, Shri Arunbhai Patel, both highlighted Gandhiji’s tireless struggle for India’s independence and his unmatched role in shaping the freedom movement through the path of truth and non-violence. Dr. Meena Raizada, noted social worker, in her address revealed several lesser-known aspects of Gandhiji’s life, including the simplicity and logical reasoning behind his dress, the philosophy of Satyagraha, and his eternal principles of Ahimsa.

She emphasized that today’s younger generation remains either unaware or only partially informed about these significant teachings of Bapu. The Society’s dynamic Secretary, Mrs. Usha Ben Patel, and Joint Secretary, Dr. A.B. Raizada, played an effective and pivotal role in organizing the event. Their coordination, outreach and efforts brought together members and families and ensured smooth arrangements despite the chilly weather on the day. Since this day also coincided with the festival of Dusshera, members of the Society and their families celebrated the occasion with great enthusiasm, enjoying the traditional Gujarati delicacy of Fafda and Jalebi.

A special appreciation goes to Mrs.Parul Ben Shah, who conducted the program with great warmth and grace. The event was a remarkable blend of historical remembrance and cultural festivity. In short, the executive Committee of the Society deserve the highest appreciation for successfully organizing this unique celebration, which brought together Gandhi Jayanti and the Dusshera festival on Canadian soil. The participation of different communities of Indian origin reflected the true spirit of cultural harmony and expressed the essence of India’s timeless message of Unity in Diversity. The event concluded with heartfelt thanks extended by the senior executive member, Mr. Satish Bhai Patel to the entire Indian Community in Brampton – Gujarati, Punjabis, Tamilians, Maharashtrians, Bengalis, and others – the journey together in harmony to celebrate the life and messages of Bapu.
