Toronto, 26 October (The Global Eye):

Olivia Chow has won the Toronto mayoral race, becoming the city’s first Asian mayor. The 54-year-old former member of parliament and longtime community advocate defeated her opponents in a closely watched election.

Chow, who has been a prominent voice on issues such as affordable housing, public transit and social justice, said she is honoured by the trust Toronto has placed in her.

“This is a victory for all Torontonians,” Chow said in her victory speech. “We are a diverse, inclusive and young city, and we will move forward together.”

Her campaign focused on making the city more affordable, improving public transportation and creating more opportunities for young people and families. Photo caption: Chow’s win marks a historic moment for Toronto and reflects Canada’s changing political landscape.
